Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz and Capt. Alan Schrader, Commanding Officer at Naval Base Kitsap, recently signed a monumental 55-year easement that will preserve 32 miles of Hood Canal’s eastern shore.
This agreement will protect habitat that is critical for sensitive Hood Canal species that support salmon and orca runs, along with rich beds of eelgrass and wild geoducks. It also protects Hood Canal from development that might increase noise pollution and interfere with military training exercises.
